Verstappen WINS in Azerbaijan

Date published: 12th June 2022

Well, it is safe to say that Baku may well prove a season-defining race. Verstappen led a Red Bull 1-2 in the streets of Azerbaijan, while Ferrari’s mechanical gremlins for their drivers cars damaged their chances across both championships. Leclerc’s early 46-point lead seems a long way away now. A perfect weekend for Red Bull.

Elsewhere, it was a fairly drab affair, but a handful of retirements meant there were some good bonus points amongst the field. Tsunoda and the Alpha Tauri team gave a wonderful demonstration of gaffer tape usage too, which was a highlight.

In Fantasy GP terms, we had a podium of Verstappen, Perez and Russell, with Perez taking the fastest lap and a total of 2 safety car periods (both being virtual). Leclerc took a phenomenal Pole Position on Saturday to continue his dominant qualifying form. We noted the mocking of the bonus points question but rose above them, with both Ferraris retiring and C (13th or worse) being the correct answer.

Here’s the complete breakdown of points for Baku. Fantasy GP will reopen by midday BST Monday for changes and predictions for the next race in just seven days, the spectacular Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal, Canada. See you then!
