Perez WINS in Monaco

Date published: 29th May 2022

Difficult to know where to start with this year’s drama in Monaco. After a frustrating delay for rain, then an almighty downpour, the action started and a game of cat & mouse started, with multiple tyre strategies and dubious strategy calls. Perez took an unexpected and fantastic win, with Ferrari potentially left ruing pitwall decisions as Leclerc’s Monaco curse strikes again, albeit he at least finished this time (in a relatively disappointing fourth)!

Mick Schumacher thankfully walked away from a big crash as his car split into two and brought a second red flag (and the first during the official race). Gasly gained some valuable FGP bonus points to finish 11th after a torrid Saturday.

In Fantasy GP terms, we had the podium of Perez, Sainz and Verstappen. Norris took the fastest lap and, of course. Leclerc took Pole Position on Saturday.

Safety cars caused more than a bit of confusion – officially, we had THREE periods (race start (1), MS crash (2) and post red flag (3). However, we appreciate that it isn’t clear that the pre/post red flag incidents count as two separate incidents, therefore points will be manually added to those predicting TWO safety cars as well. We’ll update the game guide to cover these strange scenarios moving forwards.

Finally, as for the bonus prediction, we asked about Pierre Gasly who finished P11 (following Ocon’s time penalty) and therefore option B was correct (9th to 12th).

A detailed breakdown of the results is below. See you in a couple of weeks for another street circuit – this time, Baku!
