Well, it is safe to say that we couldn’t have expected that excitement after the early stages of this French GP. Verstappen takes the glory at the Circuit Paul Ricard, taking advantage of Leclerc’s mistake into turn 11. It was an awful afternoon for Ferrari, with an unsafe release on Sainz’s car ruining any prospect of recovering from starting 19th to a podium position. Elsewhere, Mercedes will be delighted with their 2nd and 3rd finish, Hamilton finishing his 300th GP with his best result of the season and Russell taking advantage of Perez sleeping after the late VSC restart.

In Fantasy GP terms, we had a podium of Verstappen, Hamilton and Russell with Sainz taking the fastest lap on his fresh tyres. There were two safety car periods, one following Leclerc’s crash and another (virtually) following Zhou’s retirement. Leclerc took a spectacular pole on Saturday, aided by an unselfish Sainz providing a tow. The answer to the bonus question was A (both cars) with the Alpine’s on Alonso and Ocon finishing 6th and 8th respectively. Sainz picked up a massive 42 bonus points after gaining 14 places and Stroll was second best with a solid 15!
