As Formula 1 resumed, Zandvoort offered the usual party atmosphere, even if Verstappen doesn’t have such a dominant car under him. However, despite the constant threat of rain, the on-track action threatened to be relatively flat until Hamilton’s error chucked him into the wall, triggering the first of four safety car periods. Leclerc later joined his teammate after close interactions with both Mercedes and then, in devasting fashion, Norris joined the retirees shortly after smelling smoke in his cockpit. A close championship battle into the end of the season has now been has been severely threatened.

In Fantasy GP terms, we had the podium of Piastri, Verstappen and the exceptional Hadjar. Saturday’s pole went to Piastri, who reversed the practice dominance of his teammate, and he completed the clean sweep by securing the fastest lap on his hard tyres. There was four safety car periods in amongst the chaos and, in terms of the bonus question, the correct prediction was A (less than 5 seconds).
