Well, that was far from exciting at Silverstone for 30-odd laps. Aside from Norris taking a short lead, only Magnussen’s retirement and subsequent safety car breathed life into the race, at least for the “other positions”. Hamilton appeared the most significant beneficiary, getting lucky with timing and securing the final podium place, seemingly much to Russell’s ire. Norris looked as if he might have been affected by the choice of hard tyres, yet the McLaren seemed like a “rocket ship” to hold onto the title of best of the rest.
In Fantasy GP terms, Verstappen secured Saturday’s pole once again. Sunday’s race delivered a podium of Verstappen, Norris and Hamilton, with Verstappen also taking another clean sweep by grabbing the fastest lap. We also asked where the highest Aston would finish in Sunday’s race for this weekend’s bonus question, and the answer was C (7th or worse), with Alonso unsurprisingly taking the highest finish, in 7th. There was only one safety car period for Magnussen’s retirement (a VSC incident turning into a full SC).
Bottas topped the bonus points stakes with 21, with honourable mentions to Perez and Hamilton, with 18 and 13, respectively. No other drivers got into double figures!
Below is a full breakdown of the points in Britain. We’ll see you in a fortnight for the action at the Hungaroring in Budapest, Hungary.
