Gasly takes an incredible Victory at a bonkers Italian GP

Find out how well, or badly you did in the 2020 Italian Fantasy Grand Prix.

Date published: 6th September 2020

The Italian Grand Prix was literally a race of two halves. First off, it was looking to be a Hamilton runaway in P1 from lights to flag, but unfortunately for him, he and the team missed the lights showing the pit lane was closed after a Safety Car was called out.

Hamilton and Giovinazzi entered the pit lane when it was closed. It was closed due to Magnussen’s stricken Haas at the side of the pit entry following a car failure. Both drivers received a 10s Stop-Go penalty, to be taken after the race restart.

We had a red flag following a horrific accident for Charles Leclerc, who thankfully walked away from his destroyed Ferrari crumpled inside the barriers. He joined team mate Vettel to give Ferrari a double DNF for the red team.

…And then we had the second half, Hamilton in P1, but dropped to the back following his penalty and we had a fantastic race on our screens with Gasly out front ahead of Sainz, Raikkonen, Stroll and the McLaren cars.

It was a thrilling battle between Gasly, Sainz and Stroll as Kimi went backwards in the under powered Alfa Romeo. Ultimately, Gasly took the victory, just 0.4s clear of McLaren’s Carlos Sainz with Lance Stroll in 3rd for Racing Point.

Hamilton came back with 7th place from last after the race start, just 2 positions behind his team mate and championship rival, Bottas in 5th.

The points for Fantasy GP are shown below, with massive bonus points for Gasly and Latifi at 27pts each. Stroll and Russell also bagged 15 bonus points and 12 points for Ocon and Grosjean. AlphaTauri bagged the most points all the cars with 38, closely followed by McLaren with 33pts.

Hamilton bagged the fastest lap, we had 2 safety cars and the highest placed Ferrari was 18th (DNF) so the Bonus Prediction answer was c) 13th or worse.
