Spa has a history of serving up an exciting weekend, whether it is weather or otherwise, and this race was no different. After a wet Saturday qualifying, Sunday’s race was the typical madness that seems to have become common in 2024, at least after Verstappen’s dominant start.
Russell believed he had secured an almost unbelievable race win, after holding off his teammate Hamilton on a one-stop strategy. However, his joy was short-lived after finding out his car was underweight, which led to his disqualification and Hamilton becoming only the second driver to get more than one race win this season.
Elsewhere, after being in beast mode on Saturday, Verstappen couldn’t romp through the field in the anticipated way, and finished behind Leclerc in 4th, though he’ll be pleased he could finish one place ahead of Norris, who finished in a disappointing 5th.
In Fantasy GP terms we had the podium of Hamilton, Piastri and Leclerc, with Verstappen taking Pole Position on Saturday (remember, it is the car that wins Saturday qualifying that takes the pole bonus). Perez secured the fastest lap with a rampage on softs at the end. We had no safety car periods and, for the bonus question, the correct answer was A (Top 9), with Ocon sneaking into 9th following the post-race shenanigans.
Enjoy your summer break and we’ll be back in the Netherlands on 23-25 August for the Zandvoort GP.
